The University invites applications and nominations for the position of Head of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

The Department

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) has around 35 faculty members, teaching about 300 undergraduate students and about 200 postgraduate research students.  The Department has comprehensive teaching and research programs in both basic and applied aspects in the field of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.  We offer academic degrees of BEng, MSc, MPhil and PhD.   Research activities in the Department are broadly categorized into Solid Mechanics and Dynamics, Materials Science & Technology, Energy / Thermal Fluid and Environment Engineering, Design and Manufacturing, Automation and Robotics, Micro/Nano Systems, and Aerospace Engineering.  Our research activities are supported by multi-disciplinary research facilities including the Robotics and Energy Institutes and a world-class Wind Tunnel.  Members of the Department also have access to the University’s state-of-the-art instrumentation at the Materials Characterization and Preparation Facility, Nanofabrication Facility, Advanced Engineering Materials Facility, and Materials Design and Manufacturing Facility.

The Role

Reporting to the Dean of Engineering, the Head of MAE is expected to provide leadership for the Department and manage its diverse academic and administrative functions.

The headship appointment will be concurrent with a substantive professorial appointment. Applications/nominations for the position are invited from well-qualified and accomplished scholars.  In addition to extensive teaching and research experience, the successful candidate must have demonstrated capability to provide strong leadership in academic administration at tertiary level.  Proven capacity to interact effectively with government, industry and commercial sectors is an advantage.
