Job Details

Job Title:          Team Leader I Department:     Chemistry Reports To:      Associate Director of Analytical Chemistry

 

Summary: Responsible for overseeing and coordinating routine as well as full package sample analysis of samples at the New Castle site. Manage workload of his/her team.

 

Management Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assigns and supervises workload and responsibilities to his/her analytical team with direct input from supervisor
  2. Mentors/trains analytical employees (Ph.D Chemists, MS Chemists, BS Chemists and under- graduate interns) in working smart and efficiently.
  3. Provide guidance to scientists for writing and proofing weekly reports, also client reports and release of analytical data.
  4. Conducts performance reviews of direct reports and providing timely feedback on technical and operational performance.
  5. Make sure notebooks are being kept according to SOP
  6. Make sure all analytical SOP are being followed for her/his group
  7. Make sure sample analyses are being handled in a timely manner
  8. Work with group to maintain data integrity

Technical Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  1. Schedule workload with direct reports to make sure analytical samples are processed in a timely manner
  2. Schedule oversee maintenance both internal and external to ensure analytical instruments are available for analyses.
  3. Perform various purifications of target compounds
  4. Maintain a clean and safe laboratory work area
  5. Conduct weekly lab safety inspections
  6. Maintain chemistry synthesis notebook(s) and raw material lists
  7. Provide oral updates as requested
  8. Make sure notebooks are being kept according to SOP
  9. Make sure all analytical SOP are being followed for her/his group
  10. Attend all relevant safety training
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  12. Skilled in chromatography techniques
  13. Participates in safety committee reviews and meetings

Education/Experience: Ph.D. in Chemistry required and a minimum of 3 years’ experience or a Masters of Chemistry and 10 years’ experience.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises team of Ph.D. chemists, MS. Chemists, BS Chemists and technicians

 

Skills: Language Ability:

 

Ability to critically read, analyze, and interpret technical information from disparate sources (scientific periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, patents or government documents). Write scientifically rigorous reports in order to enable other researchers. Effective presentation of information and responses to questions from managers, co-workers and external collaborators.

 

Math Ability: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpretation of technical instructions from disparate information sources, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Documentum eRoom, ChemDraw, Reaxys and Scifinder.
