POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Scientist will be part of an innovative Discovery Chemistry group.   The successful candidate will be responsible for driving medicinal chemistry research and discovery during the lead optimization and identification stage. Specifically, this individual will design and synthesize novel chemical entities optimized for potency, selectivity, ADME properties, and in vivo efficacy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Optimize lead series for potency, selectivity, physiochemical properties by coupling multivariant SAR analysis with hypothesis-driven medicinal chemistry design principles
  • Reduce ideas to practice in the lab by effectively employing a broad range of modern organic chemistry transformations, synthetic methods, purification, and characterization
  • Effectively communicate results and maintain detailed records in laboratory notebooks
  • Plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion to meet project deadlines
  • Provide scientific reports that support the generation of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic / Medicinal Chemistry
  • Mastery of synthetic chemistry problem solving skills, including hands-on expertise in multi-step synthetic organic chemistry and small-scale techniques and purification
  • Proficient in structural determination using NMR, mass spectral techniques, and other analytical methods
  • Working knowledge of medicinal chemistry and structure-based drug design principles
  • Demonstration of good lab practices, maintaining detailed laboratory notebook, and with particular attention to safety
  • Track record of scientific innovation as evidenced by scientific publications
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and being able to work well in multi-disciplinary research environment
  • Enthusiastic and motivated team player with a can-do attitude
