The Department of Chemistry at Illinois State University invites applications for the position of Chair. The 12-month position has a preferred starting date of July 1, 2022. The Chair will provide academic and administrative leadership, manage and secure resources for the department, promote excellence in research and teaching, encourage pursuit of external funding, and foster a collegial atmosphere that supports our mission. Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students and who can contribute to a climate of inclusivity are especially encouraged to apply.

The ISU Department of Chemistry seeks an effective and creative leader who will promote and advance the vision of the department. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Chemistry or a related field, a significant record of research and teaching excellence, demonstrated leadership abilities, and a commitment to shared academic governance. The Chair must be tenured at the rank of associate or full professor. State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position. This position is security sensitive, and employment is contingent upon the candidate’s satisfactory clearance of a criminal background investigation based on university policy.

Additional Information

The Chemistry program at Illinois State University has a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research. The department offers undergraduate degrees in chemistry, biochemistry and chemistry teacher education, as well as, three graduate degrees including, a research-based Master of Science in Chemistry, a Master of Chemical Education, and a Master of Science in Chemical Education. The Department of Chemistry has 25 faculty who lead nationally recognized research programs with ISU students and teach an overwhelming majority of the courses offered by the department. These efforts are supported by 7 outstanding staff members and serve approximately 210 undergraduate students and 80 graduate students across all degree programs. Required Qualifications

1. Ph.D. or equivalent in Chemistry or a related field, a significant record of research and teaching excellence, demonstrated leadership abilities, and a commitment to shared academic governance.
