The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Providence College, Providence, Rhode Island, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the areas of physical or analytical chemistry, beginning August 1, 2022. A Ph.D. in chemistry is required and postdoctoral or equivalent experience is encouraged. We are seeking candidates who are committed to engaged learning and collaborative, original research with undergraduate students, who employ inclusive practices in undergraduate teaching, and who will participate in the wider life of the Department and the College. Successful applicants will be expected to teach lecture and laboratory courses at the introductory level (general chemistry) and at more advanced levels in their subdiscipline (physical or analytical chemistry). A willingness to teach courses for nonscience majors is also valued. Candidates are expected to train and mentor undergraduates in the research laboratory and to establish an active, externally funded research program involving our students. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry currently has nine full-time tenure-track faculty members, a teaching laboratory coordinator and an administrative assistant. The department offers two B.S. degree tracks, one in chemistry and one in biochemistry. It also offers a B.A. degree in chemistry that is often coupled with study in education or business. Recent graduates have gone on to enroll at prestigious research and medical programs including MIT, California-­Bekeley, Cal Tech, Wisconsin-­Madison, Columbia, Northwestern, Princeton and Yale. Some of these alums have completed NIH post-bac programs and currently three alums hold prestigious NSF graduate fellowships.
