Job Details

The Department of Chemistry at Wake Forest University expects to fill two new faculty positions to begin July 1, 2022. We invite applications for two faculty positions: 1) A tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level and 2) A non-tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Teaching Professor level. We seek faculty with a commitment to the teacher-scholar model and to enhancing the breadth, depth, and diversity of our chemistry programs. We strive for inclusivity and seek applicants with demonstrated success or interest in working with diverse groups. We especially encourage applications from those belonging to groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences.

The assistant teaching professor position will support the curriculum in areas of general chemistry and biochemistry with a commitment to teaching excellence, advising, and service to our undergraduate degree programs in the Department of Chemistry. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related area. This is a full-time, permanent, non-tenure-track teaching line, offering opportunities for promotion.

The tenure-track assistant professor position is targeted at candidates with research expertise in the areas of materials and/or organic chemistry, broadly defined. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related areas and be able to support growth in our Biochemistry & Molecular Biology curriculum. Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program involving graduate and undergraduate students, and teach lecture and lab courses at introductory and advanced levels.

We are a Ph.D. granting department whose mission is to lead in undergraduate and graduate education and research ventures that extend beyond the traditional boundaries of chemistry. Our department is housed in two recently renovated, state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, Salem Hall and Wake Downtown. In addition to traditional chemistry degree programs, we support new interdisciplinary programs in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery, and Materials Chemistry. Outstanding opportunities for multi-disciplinary collaborations exist through various WFU Research Centers and Wake Forest School of Medicine. Wake Forest is a private collegiate university that balances the personal attention of a liberal arts education with the intellectual vitality and broad opportunities of a research university.
