The Reagent Process Development team is looking for a dynamic and engaging Principal Scientist, Team Leader to manage an R&D Process Development team.  The successful candidate is a strategic leader who can connect customer requirements with manufacturing needs.  The Principal Scientist will build an effective R&D team through coaching and mentorship of scientific staff, leveraging internal and external partnerships, and collaborative leadership across the organization.  

What will you do? 

  • Build, support, and develop a world class team of 3-4 scientists.
  • Draw from your broad experience in either chemistry, biochemistry, and/or biophysics to effectively drive new diagnostic products to the market. 
  • Develop and execute a detailed workplan for scale-up and transfer into manufacturing environment for proprietary chemical and biological materials (rare reagents).  The workplan is based on an assessment of product requirements, stakeholder needs and manufacturing risks.  
  • Collaborate and communicate with internal and external networks to coordinate work, resolve challenges, and reach program goals. 
  • Maintain and develop knowledge of products and procedures, developments in the field and industry. 
  • Lead work activities of the group, planning and organizing work, providing adequate staffing and resources, and maintaining work on schedule in accordance with business priorities to meet milestone deliverables. 
  • Prepare reports and other information summarizing work activities, and report results to peer groups as well as senior management.  

 

 

What do you need to succeed?  

  • PhD in biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, organic chemistry or related field and relevant professional experience. 
  • Ideally at least 2 years of direct supervisory/management experience in biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, organic chemistry or related field. 
  • Project management skills or experience highly desirable. 
  • Track record of identifying and solving technical problems. 
  • Experience developing assays for one of the following formats desirable: immunoassay (such as ELISAs or lateral flow assays) or clinical chemistry (eg, enzyme-substrate turnover using absorbance or fluorescence detection methods).  
  • Demonstrated leadership success with both direct and/or indirect responsibility for strategic goals.  
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills including structured experimental design and analysis. 
  • Organizational skills and ability to plan work at individual, team and program levels. 
  • Ability to motivate and inspire the team with proactive team building and mentoring.
