Chemistry Storeroom Manager/Chemical Hygiene Officer
The Storeroom Manager in the Department of Chemistry works with the faculty and staff to support teaching and research by maintaining the departmental chemical inventory and ensuring the availability of common chemicals and supplies in the storeroom. The individual has responsibility for preparing reagents and ensuring supplies are readily available for teaching laboratories. As such, the Storeroom Manager is expected to be present while laboratory courses are in session (typically weekday afternoons and Tu/Th mornings). The Storeroom Manager is also responsible for ensuring the proper disposal of all departmental chemical waste. The Storeroom Manager is formally supervised by the Head of the Department of Chemistry, and provides support at the request of all departmental faculty and staff.
B.A. or B.S. degree in chemistry or related science or significant experience in chemical hygiene is required. Familiarity with OSHA standards and general chemical safety procedures is strongly preferred. Experience with modern laboratory equipment is desirable. The manger must have good communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills as well as possess excellent organizational skills. The manager should also enjoy working with college-age students and previous experience supervising, training, and scheduling workers is a plus. Basic computer skills are required. Use of LabSafe or a similar chemical ordering and inventory system is preferred.
