The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Yale University announces two searches for non-tenured, tenure-track faculty positions, with one being in the field of Advanced Materials and the other in Quantum Materials Experiment. Appointments for both positions, which will be filled independently, will be at the Assistant Professor level with anticipated start dates of July 1, 2022.

1. For the search in Advanced Materials, candidates should strengthen the department’s research activities in 1) property-structure-processing relationships; 2) high-throughput materials discovery and “materials by design” that is aided by data-driven and machine learning approaches; and 3) advanced manufacturing of materials and metamaterials and includes a broad range of materials classes such as nanomaterials, biomaterials and bioinspired materials, topological materials, metamaterials, and materials with designed architectures. Candidates with experimental research programs will be considered, as well as those who use theoretical and computational approaches combined with data-intensive, high-throughput materials discovery. To apply for this search, please create a profile at http://apply.interfolio.com/93122.

2. For the search in Quantum Materials Experiment, candidates should strengthen and complement the department and university’s research activities related to the discovery, design, synthesis, or characterization of quantum materials broadly defined. To apply for this search, please create a profile at http://apply.interfolio.com/93020.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, and an outstanding record of research that demonstrates originality in addressing significant questions in the field. We expect that the successful candidate will establish a dynamic research group, be an interactive member of the faculty, participate in interdisciplinary research and training, and excel in regular graduate and undergraduate teaching of the mechanical engineering and materials science curriculum. After having created a profile at the respective Interfolio site given above, applicants upload a statement of research plans, teaching plans (including a list of courses that they are qualified to teach), curriculum vitae, and up to three reprints of published work(s). Applicants should also arrange for three references to upload their letters of recommendation. For further information, contact Senior Administrative Assistant, Bryndis Cruz, at bryndis.cruz@yale.edu. The review of applications will begin on November 19, 2021 and continue until the position has been filled. Yale University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer. Yale values diversity among its students, staff, and faculty and strongly welcomes applications from women, persons with disabilities, protected veterans, and underrepresented minorities.
