Department of Chemical Engineering

The Department of Chemical Engineering seeks outstanding applicants for tenure-track or tenured positions at all levels. Underrepresented minorities and women are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications are welcome in all research areas in or at the boundaries of chemical engineering.

We especially seek applications from candidates working at the intersection of chemical engineering, social justice and the common good, including research efforts that address anti-racism, inclusion, equity or related topics. A track record at this intersection is valued, but not essential for junior applicants. Additionally, we are especially interested in applicants working at the intersection of chemical engineering and artificial intelligence, including deep learning and robotics; materials upcycling and sustainable energy; imaging; and stem cells, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine, especially as it pertains to robotics. Successful applicants will have opportunities for affiliations with UM’s new Robotics Institute, Michigan Institute for Data Science (MIDAS), Michigan Institute for Computational Discovery and Engineering (MICDE), the Rogel Cancer Center, Biointerfaces Institute, Michigan Materials Institute, and other college-wide and university-wide interdisciplinary programs.

We seek scholars who will provide inspiration, leadership and impact in research, teaching, and service, and who are committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in and through engineering. Applicants should have a PhD in chemical engineering or closely related field, a track record of outstanding research, and a commitment to excellence in education and student mentoring. An applicant’s research, teaching and DEI statements should define common good or social justice as they apply towards their career goals. Candidates should complete the on-line application at https://che.engin.umich.edu/about/faculty-search/.  To ensure full consideration, candidates are encouraged to apply now and before December 15, 2021. All applications will be reviewed immediately upon receipt.

The University of Michigan is consistently the top ranked public university in the US, and ranks among the top universities worldwide.
