The Johns Hopkins University’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering (JHU-DMSE) seeks applicants for multiple tenure-track faculty positions with preference for the assistant professor level. We have particular interest in computational materials science, advanced materials characterization, materials for energy, and biomaterials, but candidates in all MSE areas will be considered. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering has fourteen tenured and tenure-track faculty, several other research and teaching faculty, plus affiliated faculty in most divisions of the University. JHU-DMSE leads the Materials Characterization and Processing Facility (MCP, https://engineering.jhu.edu/MCP/about/) and the Materials Science in Extreme Environments Consortium (MSEE, https://hemi.jhu.edu/mseeura/), contributes to leadership in major JHU research centers and institutes including the Institute for NanoBioTechnology (INBT, https://inbt.jhu.edu/), the Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute (HEMI, https://hemi.jhu.edu/), and the Ralph S. O’Connor Sustainable Energy Institute (ROSEI, https://energyinstitute.jhu.edu/), and offers educational programs at the undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D. levels. The Whiting School of Engineering comprises well over 200 full time tenure-track and other faculty in nine academic departments with a total annual research budget of over $100 million. Research partnerships with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Applied Physics Laboratory, Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences (all of which host JHU-DMSE collaborators) make the Whiting School of Engineering a unique research and educational environment. Student enrollment exceeds 1800 at the undergraduate level with over 1000 full time MS and PhD students. The Engineering for Professionals program enrolls over 2000 part time continuing education students and is the largest program of its kind in the country.
