Basic Function

Team lead for a group of experts in assigned discipline, the incumbent manages a team of 7-15 subject experts, provides a high level of professional expertise, guidance and training in transportation studies and research of emerging transportation, engine and fuel technologies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for establishing the team’s strategy and business objectives and ensuring alignment with the company’s boarder goals
  • Responsible for setting team members business goals and working with team members to establish and execute individual development plans
  • Lead various transportation strategic studies aimed at understanding the interplay between future vehicle, engine, and fuel technologies and global energy demand / supply landscape
  • Lead applied research studies related to regulation requirements of advanced and future transportation across several world regions, including the US, EU, and China
  • Provide consulting interaction with other departments and with US Companies' representatives on matters relating to area of expertise
  • Keep current on new developments in his/her area of expertise; actively participate in work of technical societies (e.g., SAE, ASME, ASE, ASTM, ACS)
  • Conduct information seminars and technical presentations in areas of his principal contacts to report on studies or other areas relating to his/her expertise
  • Develop ideas for potential improvements in exploration, producing operations and processes; detail course of study and research for justification to Manager
  • Direct, guide and counsel others assigned to assist this position; train new specialists

Education and Experience

  • M.S. Degree in a Science/Engineering Discipline (Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc.). Ph.D. highly preferred
  • Typically has sixteen (16) years of professional experience including at least five (5) years as a specialist with full responsibility for major technical work in area of specialization
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; proficient technical writing skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate good critical thinking, organizational and delegation skills
  • Incumbent will have achieved substantial industry recognition in his area of expertise; ideally, the incumbent will have published in significant technical journals and will have a history of active participation in technical society activities
