The Department of Chemistry at Illinois State University is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Physical Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2022. The successful candidate will be expected to build on the chemistry program through teaching, research, outreach, and curricular development activities. A Teacher-Scholar model is highly valued; a commitment to, and effectiveness in, classroom instruction is expected and the ability to attract external funding at the level needed to build and sustain a research program is required. Teaching responsibilities will be primarily physical chemistry courses (at the BS and MS levels), but the ability to contribute to the Department in other areas is expected. An earned doctorate in chemistry or a related field is required, and post-doctoral experience in experimental physical chemistry is preferred. Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law; salary is commensurate with experience.

The Chemistry program at Illinois State University has a long tradition of excellence in chemistry research and teaching. Currently, there are approximately 175 chemistry, biochemistry, and chemistry teacher education majors in the Chemistry Department.  At the graduate level, there are approximately 30 students earning a research-based MS degree through the Master of Science in Chemistry degree program.

The mission of the ISU Department of Chemistry is one of strong research activity involving undergraduates and graduate students (MS level) coupled with a focus on premier teaching. The Department is often ranked in the top 25 producers of ACS-certified BS degrees, is consistently one of the largest producers of M.S. chemistry degrees at institutions that do not also offer a Ph.D. degree, and is one of the largest producers of high school chemistry teachers in the state.
