Full Professor of Technical Chemistry: Sustainability & Material Cycles

at pay grade W3 (minimum salary: 7,217 euros per month). This is a permanent civil service position.

We are looking for a scholar with an outstanding international record in the research and development of sustainable processes and innovative recycling strategies for the (re-)recovery of resource-critical battery materials. He or she should complement the expertise already present in the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry & Earth Sciences and in the focus areas Polymer & Colloid Science and Advanced Materials. In addition, it is expected that inter-faculty cooperation, including with non-university institutions, will be continued and new strategies developed. A willingness and ability to obtain third-party funding, including in coordinated programmes, must be evident.

The incumbent will be expected to play an active and leading role in the newly founded Bavarian Centre for Battery Technology (BayBatt). In particular, the mission of innovation and scientific transfer to industry associated with the establishment of BayBatt is emphasized. It is planned to combine the vacant position with a managerial position at the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research in Würzburg.

The research focus of the chair should be in one of the following areas:

  • (Colloidal chemical) recycling processes of battery materials
  • Sustainable material cycles of resource-critical battery materials
  • Process development for the environmentally friendly extraction of battery materials

The postholder will be expected to play a central role in the interdisciplinary master’s programme Battery Technology & Battery Systems Engineering, which is currently being established, and to contribute in particular to the topics of resources and recycling. In addition to this research-related teaching, courses will also have to be provided for major and minor students, especially in the bachelor’s programmes Chemistry and Polymer & Colloid Chemistry and the master’s programmes Materials Chemistry & Catalysis and Polymer Science. The ability to teach in German and English is expected.

The general administrative requirements for hiring professors at universities in Bavaria apply. A complete description of the vacancy can be found at www.uni-bayreuth.de/en (University / Work at the University / Job Vacancies). You can find the job advertisement of four further full professorships at BayBatt there.

Applications (CV, outlining education and academic career, list of publications, list of courses taught, experience obtaining external funding, as well as copies of all diplomas and certificates) are to be submitted electronically to the Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Chemistry & Earth Sciences, Prof. Dr. Matthias Breuning, via https://uni-bayreuth.berufungsportal.de by 7 November 2021. Applicants are welcome to direct questions and requests for further information to the Dean at dekanat.bcg@uni-bayreuth.de. Application documents will be deleted in accordance with data protection law following the conclusion of the appointment process.
