Job Details

Job Title: Senior Analytical Chemist I Department: Chemistry Reports To: Analytical Team Leader

 

Summary: Responsible to help operate all analytical equipment, independently develop and validate analytical methods, prepare full analytical packages to determine composition and purity, and relevant functions by performing the following duties.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  1. Conduct methods development, validation and transfer as needed using LC, Chiral LC, prep-LC, LC/MS, GC, GC/MS, potentiometric, spectrophotometric and thermal analytical techniques for raw materials, intermediates and APIs.
  2. Prepare solvent mixtures for LC.
  3. Prepare and load samples for testing (LCMS, GCMS and NMR).
  4. Perform testing of raw materials, intermediates and finished APIs to determine identity and purity.
  5. Conduct testing of stability samples on an as needed basis.
  6. Perform instrument qualification and calibration activities as needed.
  7. Document all work according to company procedures.
  8. Assist in compiling of analytical data packages.
  9. Review analytical data packages, determine data matches proposed structure and report results.
  10. Author and review SOPs, test methods, protocols and technical reports.
  11. Archive and maintain analytical data according to company policies.
  12. Coordinate with other functional areas to advance projects in development.
  13. Comply with company policies, SOPs and safety standards.
  14. Train new chemists on the use of analytical equipment.
  15. Clean glassware and NMR tubes.
  16. Help maintain a clean and safe work area.
  17. Maintain and repair instruments and trouble shoot software issues.
  18. Evaluate and purchase new instruments.

Education/Experience: PhD in chemistry and a minimum of 3 years of industrial experience or a Master of Science in chemistry and 7 years of industrial experience required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

 

Skills: Language Ability:

 

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and co-workers. Effective presentation of information and responses to questions from managers and co-workers.

 

Math Ability: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

 

Computer Skills:

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have extensive knowledge of Microsoft® Outlook; Microsoft® Explorer; Microsoft® Word; Microsoft® Excel; and specific instrument software for the instruments in the analytical department
