The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or in exceptional cases as an Associate Professor.

Qualifications:

Qualified applicants are expected to conduct research on biophysical chemistry of biologically relevant macromolecules. Applicants will use and build on the existing analytical, biophysical and computational infrastructure within the University of Calgary and Canada wide computing networks. In addition, the establishment of novel experimental approaches is encouraged to complement the existing biophysical instrumentation in the Biophysics core facility and the Calgary Center for Metabolomics Research in the Department of Biological Sciences (NMR, MS, ITC, DSC, SPR, Fluorescence, CD).

The applicant is expected to establish a vibrant and internationally recognized, externally funded research program in the broadly defined area of biophysics using experimental and/or computational approaches, as well as provide excellent, innovative education for undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will assist in meeting the institutional goals outlined in the recently developed ‘Framework for Growth’ and in the strategic plan of the Faculty of Science. The ‘Framework for Growth’ is centered around three big ideas that will differentiate our entrepreneurial university and drive growth: transdisciplinary scholarship, deeper community partnerships, and future-focused delivery of programs that will see us expand the flexibility and customizability of the UCalgary experience. To learn more about this vision please see: https://www.ucalgary.ca/president/growth  Cohesion with the existing and emerging trans-disciplinary research themes in life-science and health will be essential.

The successful candidate must possess a PhD or M.D. (or equivalent science degree) in biophysics or related disciplines and postdoctoral experience in biophysics or related disciplines.

Applicants at the Assistant Professor rank must have a strong publication record demonstrating excellence in biophysics. Prior success in obtaining peer-reviewed funding is an asset. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning and the use of contemporary approaches to teaching.

The successful candidate at the Associate Professor level must have a strong track record of publications in high quality journals in biophysics, as well as evidence of securing ongoing external research funding.  They must also have demonstrated effectiveness in teaching at the University level that utilizes contemporary approaches to teaching, and evidence of effective graduate student supervision.
