Director of Laboratory Sciences, Cannabis

Annual Salary Range: $80,000 - 90,000

Position Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Dean of Workforce Development, The Director of Laboratory Science will serve as Laboratory Director for the Hocking College Analytical Lab. The Laboratory Director will manage laboratory employees, including analysts, laboratory technicians, and field technicians. The Director will guarantee the production of accurate and timely test results to all customers, and ensure the Analytical Lab remains in compliance with the Ohio Department of Commerce and the Ohio Medical Marijuana Program. In addition to serving as Laboratory Director, the position will provide leadership over the Cannabis Laboratory Sciences academic program, including supervising faculty, instruction, advising students, and program recruitment and partnerships.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee laboratory employees, including analysts, technicians, and field technicians.

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the analytical lab.

• Conduct analytical laboratory testing, research activities, method development, and sample preparation.

• Apply statistical techniques to validate methods, analyze testing data, and report data.

• Oversee quality control functions.

• Ensure results are reported within established timeframes.

• Work under the current ISO 17025 standards.

• Oversee labeling and logging of samples using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

• Ensure accurate data is logged in Ohio's seed-to-sale system, METRC.

• Ensure the lab is in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and all required licenses are obtained and maintained in good standing.

• Provide leadership and oversite over the Cannabis Laboratory Sciences academic program.

• Supervise faculty.

• Provide instruction and instructional support to academic program faculty.

• Oversee student advising, internships, and partnerships.

Qualifications - Education, Experience, and Skills

• Master's degree with a major in pharmacology, chemistry, biology, a similar science. PhD. is preferred. (Degree must be from a regionally or nationally accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent as verified by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc.)

• Four (4) years of experience in research or commercial application of laboratory science,

• Two (2) teaching as a faculty member in higher education (preferred)

• Experience with HPLC, GC, GC/MS, LC/MS/MS, ICP-MS instrumentation.
