Job Details
The Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology at the University of New Mexico invites applications for three openings at the Assistant Professor level to begin in August 2022. These are full-time, tenure-track positions in experimental organic chemistry, broadly defined. Areas of particular interest include synthesis/catalysis, bioorganic/medicinal chemistry, soft materials, and organic semiconductors. Exceptional candidates from related areas are encouraged to apply. Suitably qualified candidates at the Associate Professor level will be considered as well. Responsibilities will include establishing an internationally recognized and extramurally funded research program; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in organic chemistry and related areas; supervision of master’s and doctoral students; and contributing to service activities of the Department and the University. UNM is strongly committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in its faculty and workforce. Qualified women, minorities, and members of historically-underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
The Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology is housed within recently-renovated, modern facilities. Faculty in the department lead research programs in the broad areas of Synthesis & Catalysis, Biological Chemistry, and Electronic and Photonic Materials, and Theoretical and Computational Chemistry. The department benefits from resources/collaborations on campus such as the Center for High Technology Materials, the Center for Micro-Engineered Materials, the Center for Molecular Discovery, and the Center for Advanced Research Computing. Additionally, two National Laboratories (Sandia and Los Alamos) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), all within a short commuting distance of the UNM campus, provide excellent research and collaboration opportunities. Candidates conducting highly interdisciplinary research may be considered for joint appointments with existing UNM Centers.
