Supervision Received:  Reports to the Chair of the Department of Science and

Mathematics and to the Vice President of Academic Affairs

 

Supervision exercised:  Supervises student personnel in areas of responsibility

General responsibilities:

  • Teach a 12 credit per semester load of college-level chemistry courses
  • May involve teaching Organic and Environmental Chemistry, Hazardous Materials, or  Introductory Physics courses and associated labs
  • Requires an understanding of the teaching and advising requirements in the college setting and demonstrated potential to fulfill the applicable evaluation criteria.  All teaching positions at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy require computer literacy, excellent written and oral communication skills, and an understanding of the Academy's unique mission.

Specific minimum Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Candidates with Chemistry Masters’ degrees who are working towards a doctorate will be considered; Ph.D in Chemistry strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated potential to fulfill evaluation criteria of teaching and advising at the university level
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills

Academic rank of the successful candidate determined by licensure, academic background and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • An earned doctorate in Chemistry, Chemistry Education or a related field
  • Experience in Organic and Environmental Chemistry or Hazardous Materials coursework
  • Experience with analytical tools; Spectrophotometer, GC, GCMS, AA, Mercury, ISE, and Aquatic Field Instruments
  • Ability to teach courses in physics or mathematics
  • Experience with assessment
  • Experience with online teaching
  • Professional licenses/certifications consistent with the Academy’s mission
  •   $63,000-$69,000 The Academy offers generous benefits and a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The Academy is not sponsoring immigration visas at this time.
