The Department of Chemistry is seeking a 12-month, post-doctoral research fellow to conduct research on development of drug delivery nanosystems and in vitro and in vivo investigations of the drug delivery nanosystems. The initial appointment will be for one year and is full time and benefitted, with potential for renewal for a second year, pending annual review of performance and continued availability of funding. The start date is January 3, 2022.

The Department of Chemistry in Abbott Hall is well equipped for ongoing research performed by individual faculty funded by external funding from National Science Foundation, ND EPSCoR, PRF ACS and other agencies. Abbott Hall houses 29 laboratories and classrooms, over 30 faculty and student offices including space for provides modern teaching and research facilities in the state of North Dakota and surrounding regions.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Synthesize organic molecules and functional polymers
• Construct and characterize nanoparticle formulations for optimal performance as drug delivery vehicles
• Design and evaluate targeting ligands to enable targeted delivery
• Investigate the nanomaterials for in vitro and in vivo screening
• Analyze and interpret obtained data as a member of a cross-disciplinary team
• Draft manuscripts for publication and proposals for external grants
• Maintain instruments and lab environment

Required Competencies

• Highly self-motivated and enthusiastic in research
• Capable of working independently
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students
• Ability to mentor junior team members

Minimum Requirements

• Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, biomedical engineering, or a related field
• Successful completion of criminal history records check

Preferred Qualifications

• Research experience in organic/polymer synthesis
• Research experience in drug delivery
• Experience in bioimaging
• Experience in vitro/in vivo research involving nanomaterials

Minimum Hiring Salary

$38,000+ a year, full-time, benefitted
