POSITION SUMMARY
Olivet Nazarene University seeks to fill a Faculty Member - Chemistry position.  This is a full-time position beginning Fall 2022, continuing with annual nine-month contract. The salary will be determined according to the candidate's educational background, teaching experience, and applicable work experience.

The faculty member for Chemistry Instructs students in various chemistry lecture and laboratory courses including Introductory, General Chemistry, and higher level courses commensurate with the successful candidate’s subfield of expertise, with a preference toward analytical chemistry; promotes student learning as a primary focus in the design, delivery, and evaluation of courses; creates, implements, and maintains lecture and laboratory materials; incorporates technology into both lecture and laboratory settings, as appropriate; addresses student needs from diverse backgrounds and/or cultures; and demonstrates a commitment to helping students achieve their academic and career goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. The successful candidate must be able to teach a range of different courses in Chemistry.
2. Supervises, instructs, and advises a diverse student population by incorporating multiple methods of instruction in classroom, lab, office settings (including office hours and review sessions).
3. Prepares for class, develops written syllabi/course materials (including lab activities).
4.  Incorporates technology to enhance lecture and laboratory courses.
5.  Evaluates students' progress; prepares and grades exams, quizzes; evaluates lab reports, homework, etc.
6.  Enforces safety policies in lab; develops and enhances knowledge of subject matter taught.
7. Develops and gathers data for assessments; mentors’ students with research projects.
8.  Remains current with new trends and educational developments in chemistry through attendance at conferences, courses, workshops, etc.
9.  Advises majors; and participates in campus and departmental committees and activities.
10.  May be required to lift up to 30 lbs.
11.  May require numerous evenings or weekends.
12.  May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen; exposure to chemicals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
1.  A lifestyle in agreement with the ONU Statement of Mission, Faith, and Lifestyle Covenant.
2.  Prefer at least (1) or more years' recent experience teaching college-level introductory and general chemistry
3.  Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated in cover letter with resume detailing how you best fit the Desired Qualifications
4. Excellent oral communication skills in English as demonstrated by interview
5. Experience utilizing computerized lab data acquisition systems
6. Experience developing new and/or modifying existing curriculum
7. Expressed commitment to professional development
8. Significant research or laboratory experience

EDUCATION
A doctoral degree in Chemistry or Chemical Education required.
