Tenure Track Assistant Professor

The Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Environmental Health Sciences (BEES) in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health invites applications and nominations for the position of a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Environmental Health Sciences.

The mission of the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health (JPHCOPH) is to improve health and eliminate health disparities and health inequities of rural communities and underserved populations globally through excellence in teaching, public health workforce development research, scholarship, professional service, and community engagement. Within this setting, JPHCOPH offers the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH), Master of Public Health (MPH), and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degrees, as well as a Certificate in Public Health (online). The BSPH degree has three emphasis areas: Health Education and Promotion, Environmental Health, and Global Health. The MPH program has six concentration areas: Biostatistics, Community Health, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Policy & Management, and Applied Public Health (online). The Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree has five concentration areas: Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Community Health Behavior and Education, Health Policy, and Public Health Leadership (online). The Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Environmental Health Sciences houses the DrPH in Biostatistics and Epidemiology and the MPH in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Environmental Health Sciences.

Position Description. Reporting to the department chair, the Assistant Professor will contribute to the department’s mission of research and training by maintaining an active methodological research program, engaging with multidisciplinary research teams, mentoring graduate students, teaching graduate and undergraduate environmental health sciences courses to environmental health sciences and public health students, and contributing to the department, college, and University through professional service. The position is a 10-month, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The home campus for this position will be the Statesboro campus.

Required Qualifications:

• Earned doctorate degree (DrPH, PhD, ScD) in Public Health, Environmental Health Sciences, or a closely related field by August 1, 2022 with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Environmental Health Sciences.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
• Proven record of or demonstrated potential for securing extramural research funding.

• Commitment to teaching and research, academic program development, and service that is consistent with the college's vision and mission.

• Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
• Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated research experience in one or more areas of environmental toxicology, food safety, risk assessment, solid waste management, green and sustainable chemicals, and related disciplines.
• Demonstrated teaching experience in core public health classes, particularly at the undergraduate level.
• Demonstrated ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels relying on multiple platforms of delivery, including online and face-to-face instruction.

Conditions of Employment:

• Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
• All work for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy. 
• Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus
• Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses.  Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
