The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level with a target start date of July 1, 2022. We seek candidates interested in building a strong, dynamic, and diverse research group in synthetic biology. Applicants focusing on any area of synthetic biology, broadly defined, will be fully considered. Areas of particular interest include protein, metabolic, genetic, and microbiome engineering; directed evolution; regulatory network design; computational protein design; and machine learning. Candidates interested in establishing experimental, computational, or hybrid research programs are welcome. Candidates should be committed to teaching chemical and biomolecular engineering courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and must hold a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related field. Postdoctoral experience is desirable.

For example, synthetic biology is well represented in the Departments of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. UC Irvine is also home to a new Center for Synthetic Biology. We expect the successful candidate will contribute to the vision and development of this growing center.
