Job Details
The University of Chicago invites applications for the position of Instructional Professor (open rank) in the Department of Chemistry. The selected candidate will be appointed as Assistant Instructional Professor, Associate Instructional Professor, or Instructional Professor, depending on qualifications and educational background. The appointment will be for a term of up to five years, renewable. This is a career-track position with potential progression, competitive salary, and benefits. This position is expected to begin on September 1, 2022.
The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University.
The Department of Chemistry is looking to continue its programmatic and educational excellence in preparing undergraduate students for careers and future study in the chemical sciences. Initial instructional responsibilities include teaching courses at the general chemistry level as well as developing and delivering new pedagogical content and laboratory activities for other chemistry courses. In addition, it is envisioned that future duties will include proposing and designing course materials for additional courses not part of this initial assignment. Additional duties may include contributions to the effective functioning of departmental programs of instruction, including program development and/or coordination of our general and advanced chemistry sequences. Time is allotted for professional development.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field as well as at least one year experience teaching in a selective college or university as an instructor of record.
Preferred qualifications: training and experience that makes candidates exceptionally qualified to teach undergraduate courses and develop course materials in one or more of the following areas: general chemistry, physical chemistry and experimental chemistry.

We also welcome materials on relevant experience with developing and managing a program of instruction, program development and/or coordination, syllabi and pedagogy development, and organizing educational conferences and workshops.
