Job Details

The Science & Mathematics Program at Soka University of America (SUA) seeks to fill a full-time visiting assistant professorship in chemistry, beginning in August 2022. This is a two-year position. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to engage students in small classroom and laboratory settings. This position will support SUA’s general education science courses housed in a new state-of the-art science teaching and research facility. The teaching responsibilities of this position include teaching science general education courses, co-teaching our introductory course Integrated Biology and Chemistry, and teaching a January block Learning Cluster course. All courses should involve students via project-based and active learning approaches suitable for small class sizes capped at 16 students. The teaching load per academic year for this position is five courses. Research space will also be available to work collaboratively with students.

Qualifications: Applicants from all fields of chemistry are welcome and must hold a Ph.D.  Preferably, candidates will have teaching experience in general chemistry.

Candidates should demonstrate responsiveness toward and understanding of diverse student backgrounds, especially with regard to socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, culture, ability/disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity and have a willingness to facilitate the university’s mission to develop global citizens.
