The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (www.cee.gatech.edu) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA invites applications for up to three tenure-track faculty positions with priority in the areas of: Environmental Engineering and Geosystems Engineering. All degree programs in the School are ranked in the top five US programs. Applicants will be considered at all ranks in any of the School’s research areas, with emphasis on multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and crosscutting activities. Faculty candidates are sought in two particular areas: Environmental Engineering, with emphasis on air pollution and global change, urban systems and sustainability, and environmental public health; and Geosystems Engineering, with emphasis on sustainable urban geotechnics, bio-inspired and bio-mediated geotechnics, multi-scale/multi-physics modelling of subsurface systems and processes, and application of data science in addressing system level geo-infrastructure safety and resilience. Faculty candidates in other areas of Civil Engineering including Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Materials (SEMM), Construction and Infrastructure Systems Engineering (CISE), Water Resources Engineering (WRE) and Transportation Systems Engineering (TSE) will be considered, particularly those with expertise in leveraging materials innovations and data science to address issues in those disciplinary areas.

Broadly, we seek candidates whose work contributes to the School’s interdisciplinary, crosscutting research areas of smart cities, sustainable systems, healthy communities, and resilient infrastructure systems. Further, the School seeks to expand its research and teaching expertise in interdisciplinary areas that address global grand challenges. Preference will be given to candidates at the assistant professor level, but exceptional candidates at the associate professor or professor levels will be considered. Candidates are expected to teach and mentor a diverse student body. Along with undergraduate and graduate teaching, each position requires a balance of research and service responsibilities. Candidates shall have either demonstrated or shown a clear potential for creative and independent research that would lead to a strong, extramurally funded research program and national/international recognition.

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech currently has approximately 610 undergraduate students, 340 graduate students, and 51 tenure-track faculty members. Fourteen faculty members are women, and five faculty members identify as a member of under-represented minority groups. Eighteen faculty members hold endowed chairs or professorships with 33% of them being women faculty. The corresponding graduate programs are ranked #2 and #6, respectively.
