Millikin University invites applications for Assistant Professor or Instructor and Director of the Pre-Professional Program to commence on August 1, 2022. The assistant professor position would be tenure track. The instructor position would be renewable, and may include multi-year contracts, but will not be tenure track.
A doctorate in Biology, Chemistry, or a related discipline conferred before August 2022 is required for a tenure-track position. A M.S. in Biology, Chemistry, or a related discipline conferred before August 2022 is required for the instructor position. Candidates may have expertise in any field of biology, chemistry, or related discipline and experience with advising undergraduate students pursuing careers in human and animal health is preferred. Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching is required.
This position carries a teaching load of 3 courses per year (9-10 hours). Expected courses for this position include biology or chemistry for non-majors, introductory biology or chemistry for majors, anatomy and physiology, upper-level courses in the area of expertise, and/or a course in patient-practitioner dynamics. The remainder of the course load will be dedicated to delivering review programs to students preparing for professional school entrance exams, such as the MCAT, DAT, and GRE. The successful candidate will also advise each student in the pre-professional program, working to help students develop a professional identity, complete observation hours, develop personal statements, complete applications, and develop interview skills. Participating in recruiting events and production and maintenance of recruiting materials is also a requirement for this position. A successful tenure-track assistant professor must maintain a program of active scholarship related to their area of expertise or in pedagogy and best practices in pre-professional advising and programming. This position carries a 12-month contract annually.
