Assistant Teaching Professor– General Chemistry. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Florida International University invites applications to fill a full-time and permanent Non-Tenure Track position at the Assistant Teaching Professor level, starting in August of 2022.  Duties include teaching General Chemistry, coordination of General Chemistry laboratories, and training and supervision of student and graduate teaching assistants.  The ideal candidate is also expected to take an active role in laboratory reform efforts such as designing new laboratory assignments, curricular reform, rewriting/revising of laboratories’ manuals, developing potential online/hybrid courses, and pursuing grants for improving laboratory equipment. A Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or Chemistry Education and experience teaching undergraduate students at the introductory level are required.  Additionally, experience in laboratory coordination is preferred.  Applicants are expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and in teaching innovation including the use of active learning techniques, among other evidence-based teaching practices.  The candidate is expected to have departmental administration and committee duties as a full-time assistant teaching professor and expected to have full-time presence on campus.  The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, with 44 faculty from 13 different countries, has dynamic and growing Ph.D. programs in Chemistry and Biochemistry supporting over 100 graduate students, and vibrant undergraduate programs with ~100 B.A. and B.S. graduates each year.
