Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry

Starting Date: August 22, 2022

Qualifications: Ph.D. in chemical education. Expertise in inorganic chemistry or biochemistry preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with a documented record of excellence in teaching.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes and laboratories in Introductory Chemistry (GOB) and an integrated Chemistry capstone course. The successful candidate will develop an active research program. The successful candidate may have an opportunity to teach in the general education program. Additional responsibilities will include academic advising and other service to the Chemistry/Biochemistry Program, the College, and the University.

Rank and Salary: Assistant Professor. This position is eligible for tenure. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

The Program: The Chemistry and Biochemistry Program is housed within the Department of Computational and Physical Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences. The program supports approximately 80 chemistry and biochemistry majors. The full-time faculty members in chemistry / biochemistry have received grant support from federal and private/foundation sources. Students and faculty in chemistry / biochemistry are active in field and laboratory research, study abroad programs, and internships. The Department of Computational and Physical Sciences has a full-time stockroom manager. The program is housed in a new science building with state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories.

The College: The College of Arts Sciences offers undergraduate and a graduate program through six departments - Computational and Physical Sciences; Communication, Criminal Justice, and Sociology; English, Modern Languages and Philosophy; Department of History, Political Science, and Religious Studies; Department of Life Sciences; and Visual and Performing Arts. The Department of Computational and Physical Sciences offers majors in: Actuarial Science, Applied Physics/Engineering Dual Degree Program, Applied Physics, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, 3+4 Biochemistry/PharmD Emphasis. There are also articulation programs available: 3+2 Engineering Program, and 3+3 Pharmacology with Medical College of Wisconsin. The College has academic administrative and support personnel.

The University: Founded in 1846, Carroll University is an independent, co-educational comprehensive institution grounded in the liberal arts tradition. The Pioneer Core general education curriculum has a strong emphasis on developing intercultural awareness. Carroll University is located in suburban Waukesha, 16 miles west of Milwaukee and 60 miles east of Madison. The University serves approximately 3000 full-time and 500 part-time students. The University, though intentionally ecumenical and non-sectarian in approach, is related to the Presbyterian Church, USA.
