Job Title: Scientist III
Work Location: Florence, SC
Division: Pharma Services Group (PSG)
The Scientist III’s responsibility is to provide technical support for contract API manufacturing by conducting process R&D and troubleshooting pilot plant/plant processes through hands-on laboratory experimentation.
What will you do?
- Plan and execute experiments on synthesis and purification of organic entities for process evaluation, development and troubleshooting.
- Record and analyze scientific data/observations in detail. Write technical updates/reports. Participate in technical discussions with internal teams and clients.
- Develop feasible chemical processes to synthesize drug intermediates and API’s that meet or exceed the quality requirements from clients.
- Engage in process technology transfer of projects.
- Research industry practices and processes and apply to innovative development internally and for client products.
- Lead multiple projects with minimal supervision. Manage project timelines and deliverables.
How will you get here?
Education
- Master's Degree in Chemistry – required; Organic Chemistry – preferred. PhD preferred. 1-3 years' work experience or post-doc preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Good knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry. Familiar with scientific database search. Knowledge of cGMP as related to the pharmaceutical industry is a plus.
- Strong synthetic skills demonstrated by synthesis and isolation (chromatography, crystallization, distillation etc.) as well as characterization (NMR, IR, MS etc.) of organic compounds.
- Effective written, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including managing technical discussions with internal and external clients.
- API (active pharmaceutical ingredients) experience is a-plus.
