With over 100 years of history of innovation and creativity in research and education, the department is one of the premier chemical engineering departments in the country, and represents one of seven academic departments in the 4th ranked College of Engineering. The student body includes approximately 200 undergraduate, 80 Masters, and 100 PhD students. The faculty includes 20 tenure-track, 1 research-track and 1 teaching-track faculty complemented by a number of courtesy and adjunct faculty from diverse areas. Pittsburgh is the home of several other world-class research universities and has a major research hospital (UPMC) that many of our faculty collaborate with.

Applicants must have earned a PhD in chemical engineering or a field of engineering or science closely related to chemical engineering. We are open with respect to rank and research area; applicants with experimental focus in areas of energy, environment, or bioengineering will be of particular interest. For senior level applicants, teaching experience and an internationally recognized record of research are expected.
