POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry within the Division of Physical Sciences at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates with research interests in quantum and/or energy materials and/or solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates must have a strong record of research accomplishment, an innovative research plan, and a demonstrated ability or potential for excellence in teaching. All positions are subject to availability of funding.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field prior to the start of appointment and demonstrated potential for a recognized program of excellence in both teaching and research. In addition, successful candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education. A successful candidate should have a well-articulated plan of contributing to programs that increase the access and success of underrepresented students and faculty in the sciences. We welcome candidates who have already participated in, contributed to, or created such programs, and can articulate how these activities helped shape their plan. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to helping shape and expand the University's diversity initiatives (http://diversity.ucsd.edu/). Teaching in general chemistry, materials chemistry, and related topics will be expected. The candidate should have skills and interest in teaching lab and lecture courses at both the graduate and the undergraduate levels.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must have a PhD in Chemistry or a closely related field prior to the start of appointment.

Candidates must have demonstrated potential for a recognized program of excellence in both teaching and research.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Candidates must have received their Ph.D. before July 1, 2022.

Preferred qualifications
