Scientific Advisor/Patent Agent

Job Type: Full-time, IP Law Firm Apprentice

Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year

Duration: 2-Year Apprenticeship (No guarantee of full-time position at end of program)

Responsibilities

• Review and digest invention disclosures
• Draft patent applications, correspond with inventors, tech officers
• Strategize approaches to patent filings
• Gather and organize information from inventors; prepare documents for submission to USPTO and foreign patent offices
• Support the work of patent attorneys, patent agents and scientific advisors
• Manage communication between client, firm, USPTO, foreign law offices
• Alert team of changes in case status; Take lead in creating follow-up actions
• Oversee case development using tools designed to keep client work on track
• Digest and assemble patent, trademark portfolios in preparation for review by USPTO examiners who will make decisions on whether to advance cases based on the completeness and accuracy of the information presented

Qualifications and Skills

• Master’s or Ph.D. degree in biology, chemistry or related field(s)
• Law student or recent law school graduate a plus
• New York Bar, Patent Bar a plus
• Excellent writing and oral communication skills
• Eager to learn and grow in intellectual property law industry
