The Connecticut College Department of Chemistry invites applications to fill two full-time visiting positions at the rank of lecturer for the academic year 2022-2023, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year. The two positions are as follows: Position 1 primarily involves overseeing and teaching general chemistry labs. There is a secondary responsibility for teaching organic or biochemistry lab. Position 2 involves teaching in two of three of the following areas – general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry. Candidates with expertise in organic chemistry will also teach a weekly recitation section for the course. Both positions have some shared responsibilities for purchasing and overseeing chemicals and supplies, as well as helping with lab preparation and set-up as needed. Visiting lecturers teach 3 lab sections per semester. Lab sections typically enroll 12 students per section or less. Some labs may require teaching during the evening. There is no expectation of research.
The department offers ACS-certified majors in chemistry and biochemistry, as well as an interdisciplinary major in biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology. In lecturers, the College seeks outstanding teachers who are committed to student learning and will effectively engage students in both group and one-on-one instruction. MS degree or higher in chemistry is required. Teaching experience is required.
