Gurkan Lab at Case Western Reserve University is looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher with a chemical engineering background who demonstrates ingenuity, productivity, and ability to work in a diverse, high-energy environment. Gurkan Lab specializes in novel solvents (deep eutectic solvents and ionic liquids) and hybrid materials for CO2 capture & conversion and energy storage. The GLEI postdoctoral researcher will work on a sponsored project that is highly collaborative, mentor a junior PhD student, present research progress in frequent meetings, and help write annual reports.

Founded in 2008, the Great Lakes Energy Institute (GLEI) is an interdisciplinary research institute dedicated to catalyzing breakthroughs in energy sustainability that address the most pressing problems facing our world. The GLEI Postdoctoral Fellow in Decarbonization is anticipated to be a promising scholar with research in the emerging fields of decarbonization, carbon capture, or carbon sequestration. In addition to regular and assigned research activities, this Fellowship includes an annual discretionary prize of $3,000 to be used to further the Fellow's professional development.

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in chemical engineering
  • Expertise in gas separations
  • Knowledge of ionic liquids/deep eutectic solvents (synthesis and physical properties)
  • Have used NMR, DSC, TGA and GC
  • Proven track record in high quality publications
  • Must have conference presentation experience
  • Effective communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with microwave reactors, Labview, and hands-on equipment setup
  • Experience working Gas chromatography, DOSY, IR, sorption measurements, and equipment setup (microwave reactor design, gas connections, mass flow controllers – preferably Labview controlled, etc.)
  • Enthusiasm in research, willingness to work with others, and interest in mentorship
