Senior Scientist - Skin Care Formulation

The selected applicant will be onsite in our labs and offices in Akron, Ohio with some opportunity for remote work.

Role Objective

Develop innovative and differentiated formula solutions for skin care (soaps, hand sanitizers, etc.) to support business strategy and commercialization objectives and ensure successful realization of GOJO purpose and vision.
Identify, evaluate, optimize, and implement new and novel technologies and support the implementation of key corporate strategies through technology and experience.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

•    Develops new and innovative technologies, formulation architectures, research processes, laboratory techniques, that result in or contribute to products that deliver competitive advantage to meet business needs
•    Maintains expert knowledge of GOJO skin care product formulations and associated performance relative to competitive products
•    Provides deep insights into structure/function relationship of formulation components that inform ingredient selection and screening, including next generation chemistries in the context of Sustainability 
•    Collaborates with cross-functional teams to translate “jobs to be done” and market insights to generate user requirements, to support and substantiate claims and to create technical specifications, 
•    Effectively uses project planning techniques and tools to drive multiple concurrent new technology opportunities to sound proof of principle and Stage Gate business decisions
•    Partners with external suppliers to foster innovative opportunities that leverage supplier technology and competencies.  Fosters long term strategic partnerships with select external partners.
•    Partners with external thought leaders to advance science and influence public knowledge and behavior 
•    Selectively creates and applies intellectual property (including publications) to advance innovation and competitive advantage
•    Proactively scans and researches new concepts, raw materials, technical opportunities, and external partnerships
•    Leads or represents R&D on project teams by appropriately providing, interpreting, and communicating practical technical information and project status
•    Maintains Customer Focus by striving to understand customer needs and partnering with Total Solutions and Market Research teams to translate needs to technical solutions
•    Maintains strong collaborative relationships with R&D partners including the Advanced Formulation team, Skin Care and Clinical Sciences group, Microbiology, Analytical Chemistry, and the Development Lab
•    Collaborates throughout Enterprise and with external partners, interacting with various groups such as Supply Chain, Regulatory, Marketing, Product Management, external suppliers, and consultants
•    Establishes and maintains relationships with external suppliers and actively pursues advancement of the GOJO ingredient pallet through the combined lens of performance innovation, sustainability, and clean chemistry principles
•    Participates in relevant Trade organizations to proactively follow emerging industry trends and advancements in ingredients, test methodologies, and claims
 

Education and Experience

• Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant professional experience
• BS required; MS, or PhD in appropriate scientific field, preferably chemistry, preferred
• Experience in formulating personal care products, preferably in skin hygiene and topical antimicrobial efficacy

  Travel Requirements

Overnight Travel - sporadic - required.

Travel between campus locations in Northeast Ohio as needed
