The research technician will be involved in a wide variety of laboratory testing and technical lab support/activities for a biochemistry research laboratory. This position requires analytic and creative thinking to problem solve and develop experimental designs and protocols. The research technician or postdoctoral fellow will prepare and perform experiments in protein biochemistry, biophysical chemistry, and/or molecular biology including collection, recording, and analysis of data and results. The research technician or postdoctoral fellow will be involved in sample collection and analysis/interpretation of results. The research technician or postdoctoral fellow will write and record/maintain precise records relative to all research procedures and results and will be involved in preparation of manuscripts. In addition, this individual will communicate results/analyses to the supervisor and other laboratory personnel.
Additional jobs will include (i) maintaining and communicating experimental protocols, results, and analyses among lab members; (ii) interfacing with both internal and external resources as appropriate to obtain technical directive and advice; (iii) helping train and supervise the activities of other full- or part-time laboratory research staff including students and technicians; (iv) maintaining training and continuing education with regard to laboratory and chemical safety; (v) regularly surveying inventory and ordering laboratory supplies and reagents; (vi) preparing common laboratory reagents; (vi) disseminating results to the research community; and (vii) performing routine laboratory procedures and maintaining laboratory records, interfacing with departmental or university personnel as required.
