The Linfield University, Department of Chemistry (www.linfield.edu/chemistry/index.html) invites applications to fill a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor/General Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator position to manage all operations of the general chemistry laboratory program beginning July 1, 2022.
The position will support majors in chemistry as well as provide service courses to majors in biology, biochemistry, environmental studies, nursing, exercise science, and pre-professional health majors. Applicants should desire to be part of a committed team of faculty which works together to deliver a high-quality education and experience to our students. The position is responsible for all operation of Linfield University’s general chemistry laboratory instruction, supervision, and management in collaboration with the chemistry faculty and staff, including stockroom supervision, scientific equipment and software maintenance, and supervision of upper division laboratories as needed. Experience with or willingness to develop expertise in Argument Driven Inquire (ADI) and Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) pedagogy preferred. Other teaching responsibilities will be determined depending on candidate’s interests, expertise, and departmental needs, including supervision of upper division laboratories.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1) Ph.D. or Masters in chemistry or chemical education 2) Deep commitment to undergraduate education, 3) Previous teaching experience in higher education beyond the teaching assistant level preferred, 4) Evidence of and commitment to student-centered teaching and mentoring of diverse students (e.g. new majority students, first generation students, students of color, transfer students, Pell-eligible students), 5) Ability to collaborate with colleagues, students, and staff, and a demonstrated capacity to serve the department and the larger university community.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Education; Experience or expertise with Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) and/or Argument Driven Inquire (ADI) pedagogy; previous higher education teaching experience.
