Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (T/TT), MizzouForward, Biomaterials at
the University of Missouri

The University of Missouri – Columbia (MU) seeks applications and nominations for outstanding faculty candidates with a focus on Biomaterials. This appointment is part of MizzouForward, the most important strategic investment to achieve research excellence and student success in the history of the university.  This initiative will leverage existing institutional strengths and address national health and scientific priority areas through innovation and collaboration.  The successful candidates will have outstanding, competitive, externally funded research programs in any area of Biomaterials including, but not limited to, novel biomaterials development and characterization, biofabrication of functional materials, computational approaches to biomaterial design, and tissue engineering. Positions are available in the Departments of Chemistry and Physics in the College of Arts & Science and the Department of Biological, Biomedical and Chemical Engineering in the College of Engineering. Appointments and / or joint appointments in other departments, including the School of Medicine, are possible.

A centerpiece of the University’s focus on research excellence is the NextGen Precision Health Initiative. Established in Fall 2021, the NextGen Precision Health Institute (NGPHI) provides research faculty from across the University of Missouri System with a new $221 million cutting-edge research facility dedicated to solving our most pressing health concerns. Designed to empower interdisciplinary collaboration as the cornerstone of the initiative, the facility provides a nexus for collaborative activities focused on speeding the path to new treatments and therapies – and making them accessible to people in need, faster than ever before. The University has partnered with Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. in a $27M expansion of the electron microscopy core facility that is housed in the NGPHI and provides world-class characterization resources for interdisciplinary researchers. Also housed in the NGPHI will be a class 1000 cleanroom allowing biofabrication and manufacturing capabilities. The University of Missouri operates a 10 MW research reactor (MURR) – the most powerful on a university campus in North America. Finally, the MU Materials Science and Engineering Institute serves as a hub for materials-related research in areas ranging from quantum materials to autonomous manufacturing, with an emphasis on collaborative, interdisciplinary activities that span traditional research disciplines.
