The Department of Nanoscience is a dynamic and transdisciplinary department that is graduate-only and research-intensive. The Department of Nanoscience offers several graduate degree programs including Ph.D.’s in Nanoscience with concentrations in Synthetic Biology and in Advanced Materials; an thesis-based MS; and a Professional MS in collaboration with the Bryan School of Business and Economics. The department is located within the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, an institution joined at the Dean level between the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and North Carolina A&T State University.

Applicants who work in the field of synthetic biology and can complement or grow current research efforts in the department (either experimentally or computationally) are welcome to apply. Of particular interest are those whose research programs will focus on metabolic engineering/bioprocess engineering, tissue engineering, or bioprinting; however all strong applicants working in the field of synthetic biology broadly defined will be considered. Qualified applicants will have an earned PhD in a relevant science discipline such as biomedical engineering, bioengineering, molecular biology, or microbiology, and have at least two years of postdoctoral training. Competitive candidates will have an excellent record of research as demonstrated by their publication record and exhibit great promise of extramural funding or have an established record of extramural funding. New faculty will be expected to develop an externally-supported research program, teach effectively at the graduate level, collaborate with researchers in the Joint School of Nanoscience & Nanoengineering as well as with researchers in their field, and participate in Departmental and University service activities, with opportunities at the Joint School to engage in entrepreneurial activities.
