USDA-ARS Post-Doctoral Position at Southern Regional Research Center New Orleans LA: A postdoctoral fellowship in biomaterial science with an emphasis on the post-harvest application of cotton to advanced wound dressings is available with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Southern Regional Research Center located in New Orleans, Louisiana.  The position will work in the area of the application of cotton and its derivative forms to research addressing the growing healthcare crisis of chronic wound and state of the art battlefield dressings. Research Project: The Post-Doctoral associate will participate in an interdisciplinary group of textile and biomedical scientists formed as a consortium of government, university and industry collaborators to apply molecular design concepts aligned with wound healing science to dressing and infection control.  Previous work in the ARS laboratory has shown how cotton product research and development enhances bleeding control, jump starts wound healing, and prevents infection. With the direction of a senior scientist, the candidate will apply chemical concepts of structure/function design and analysis to the improvement of the functional matrix of cotton fibers in nonwoven and nanocellulose material forms. The R&D work will also have a  technology transfer component directed to the production and regulatory issues associated with FDA approval and commercialization for use in patients and in the military medicine theater.
