Nanoscience Postdoctoral Fellow

The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical research support for work in the Ahmed lab related to soft active matter research funded by NSF. Responsibilities include the synthesis, characterization, optical viewing and tracking of motion of polymeric active matter systems.
Ph.D. in chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, engineering or related field. Ability to maintain detailed, highly organized laboratory notebook.
Experience in the field of soft active matter especially as it relates to low Reynolds number systems. Experience in PDMS micromolding, optical imaging and tracking of particle motion, and fabrication of polymer microstructures is highly desirable. Computational experience is not required but a plus.
*Sample synthesis and characterization
Essential Tasks Utilize 3D printing, micromolding, photolithography and other tools to make samples.
*Optical viewing of motion, motion tracking and analysis
Essential Tasks Record and observe motion of active matter samples. Analyze resulting data. Track and analyze motion. Perform computational modeling to supplement if needed.
*Data preparation, organization, and analysis
Essential Tasks Maintain detailed and careful laboratory notebook; organize data across experiments and perform analysis of experimental results
*Laboratory maintenance and upkeep
Essential Tasks Maintain relevant consumables, the 3D printer and optical viewing equipment. Assist in training lab members.
