The Geochemistry program at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL), Florida State University (FSU), seeks a researcher at the postdoctoral level or above in environmental radionuclide geochemistry. The candidate selected is expected to conduct measurements of the environmental distribution of radium and its daughter products associated with phosphate mining and industrial activities in Florida. The initial appointment will be for one year with renewal for up to two additional years conditional upon performance and availability of funding.

A PhD in earth science, environmental chemistry or other field providing expertise in low-level radionuclide determination by gamma spectrometry is required. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Geochemical facilities available include gamma spectrometry, alpha autoradiography, RAD7s, magnetic sector ICP-MS instruments, a Class-100 clean laboratory, laser ablation, x-ray diffraction and electron microscopy.

Interested applicants should submit a CV, statement of experience in gamma-ray spectrometry, and the names and contact information of three references to Munir Humayun (humayun@magnet.fsu.edu). Review of applications will begin August 23, 2022,  and continue until the position is filled.

The NHMFL is operated for the National Science Foundation by a collaboration of institutions comprising FSU, UF, and LANL. FSU is an Equal Opportunity/Access/Affirmative Action/Pro Disabled & Veteran Employer. We encourage women and all underrepresented racial and ethnic groups to apply.
