The DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY at DENISON UNIVERSITY invites applications for a tenure-track position in organic chemistry at the ASSISTANT PROFESSOR level starting Fall 2023. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level and the capacity to develop a research program that recruits and engages undergraduates in publishable research.

One of the ways Denison University is committed to facilitating the inclusion and success of groups traditionally underrepresented in STEM disciplines is by increasing faculty diversity.   Our commitment to being an antiracist and diverse learning and working community is essential to our educational mission.  Individuals who identify as underrepresented in STEM disciplines are especially encouraged to apply.

Denison University is an increasingly diverse, highly selective, and nationally ranked residential liberal arts college located in Granville, Ohio, 30 minutes east of the Columbus metropolitan area.  See our website (denison.edu/academics/chemistry-biochemistry) for more detailed descriptions of our program.  The Columbus area offers numerous opportunities for dual-career families and collaborations (https://columbusregion.com/).

A Ph.D. is required, and research experience beyond the Ph.D. is preferred. Application information at apply.interfolio.com/108486.  Priority date for applications is September 12, 2022.

Applicants should submit a cover letter addressing their motivations for teaching at a small, residential, liberal arts college, curriculum vitae including a publication list, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and separate statements addressing their:

1) teaching philosophy across the curriculum, including capacity to teach introductory chemistry, organic chemistry and an upper-level course in their specialty

2) detailed summary of proposed research (a ~5-page summary), and

3) actionable ideas to foster an equitable experience and belonging for students traditionally underrepresented in STEM disciplines.

To achieve our mission as a liberal arts college, we continually strive to attract and hire candidates with diverse backgrounds, experiences and identities. Denison fosters a campus community that recognizes the value of all persons regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, gender expression and identity, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or socio-economic background. For additional information and resources about diversity at Denison, please see our commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity and antiracism (IDEA) at https://denison.edu/campus/denison-forward.  Denison University is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
