Louisiana is one of the nation's most productive and valued states in energy exploration and production and is uniquely positioned to lead emerging and advanced technologies for the energy transition beyond traditional fuels. LSU, the state's flagship institution, seeks an innovative and experienced Executive Director to lead the Institute for Energy Innovation, a newly formed applied R&D entity for advancing scholarship and solution delivery in areas of hydrogen/CCUS, coast, and low carbon fuels. The Executive Director will lead LSU's energy objectives, strengthen Louisiana's energy posture, and collaborate with industry and community stakeholders to represent develop a vision for the future of energy across the state, nation, and globe.
Program administration and execution: Design, facilitate, and execute a comprehensive and collaborative research program across campus (and possibly institutions) that catalyzes research, scholarship, and innovation in initial areas such as Hydrogen/CCUS, Coast, and Low Carbon Fuels. Future areas of development may include power, battery materials, and wind energy. A successful research program will generate lasting and quantifiable societal impacts through exceptionally trained and diverse talent, expanded workforce, critical insights, new technologies, and improved economic and environmental policy. (35%)
Sponsored Funding and Business Development: Identify and secure competitive and non-competitive funding opportunities from government, industry and other sources in relevant research areas for research, scholarship, and education. Establish long-term financial stability for the Institute and associated programs at LSU. Work with community, regional, state, and industry stakeholders to position LSU and Louisiana as an energy leader. (35%)
Financial Management: Manage annual yearly budgets for the Institute for Energy Innovation and develop year-end reporting on program investments and returns. Where appropriate, collaborate with campus stakeholders on program and facility investment to strengthen university research, talent, and technology development posture. (15%)
Community Advocacy: Serve as institute spokesperson, represent LSU energy interests and perspectives, and liaise with public sector agencies, government officials, industry, and the general public to communicate the research and community impact of the Institute for Energy Innovation. (10%)

Ph.D. (or other terminal degree) and seven (7) years of experience in leading industrial research, solution delivery, product and capability development, and/or technology transition teams in one or more of the focal areas of Hydrogen/CCUS, Coast, or Low Carbon Fuels. Experience in policy, business development, or government relations appreciated. Valid driver's license is required.
***DEGREE SUBSTITUTE***: a master's degree and 12 years of professional service will be considered a substitution for the Ph.D. (or other terminal degree).
Preferred Certifications / Licenses:
Professional Engineer, Professional Geoscientist, or other comparable licensing.
Must meet the University's minimum qualifications to operate a motor vehicle while conducting LSU business. Due to the nature of the position and / or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to and pre-employment screenings (drug screen, physical, and background check) as required by LSU FASOP HR-04 and PS-67.
Physical ability and eye-hand coordination necessary to use a computer terminal, copier, telephone and other standard office equipment; ability to sit in the same position for extended periods (5.5+ hours a day) at a time using continuous hand motions when entering data into the computer system.
