Job Details

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Michigan invites applications for a tenure-track position in any area of chemistry (including analytical, chemical biology, education, inorganic, materials, organic, and physical) with an anticipated start date of August 28, 2023.

We expect that the position will be filled at the assistant professor level. This position will be a university-year appointment (9-months academic year salary with summer salary supported by research funds). Candidates are expected to develop an internationally recognized program of scholarly research, to excel in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to promote an inclusive scholarly environment, and to commit to building a diverse intellectual community. Furthermore, we seek to nominate outstanding applicants to the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) Collegiate Fellows program, which supports exceptional scholars who are committed to diversity in the academy.

Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or related areas.

All application materials should be submitted online through https://apps-prod.chem.lsa.umich.edu/chem/facultyrecruit/index.php. (Only applications submitted through the provided link will be accepted).

These materials include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a statement of future research plans, a statement of teaching philosophy, a statement of commitment to diversity, and the names and contact information for three references who will provide a letter of recommendation. Guidance for these materials is provided online at https://apps-prod.chem.lsa.umich.edu/chem/facultyrecruit/index.php.

For any questions, please contact the Department of Chemistry at chemfacrecruit@umich.edu.  The deadline for submission is September 16, 2022.

Offers for this appointment are contingent on successful completion of a background screening. The University of Michigan is supportive of the needs of dual career couples and is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and members of minority groups are encouraged to apply.

This offer is contingent upon reporting your COVID-19 proof of vaccinations no later than one week before your appointment start date. You may request a medical or religious exemption; however, successful completion of the exemption process must occur prior to your start date. If you will not be up to date on your vaccinations at the time of hire (defined as receiving all recommended doses in the primary vaccine series and one booster when eligible), you may request an exemption. A temporary postponement may be requested if you are unable to receive the primary series or booster in your country of origin or current location. More information on this policy is available on the Campus Blueprint website.
