Western Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Biochemistry beginning September 15, 2023. The Chemistry Department has 24 tenure-track faculty, serves about 300 undergraduate majors and over 20 graduate students annually, and offers a variety of degrees in Biochemistry or Chemistry (M.S., B.S., B.A.), along with a combined B.A. with Education degree. The B.S. Chemistry degree is certified by the American Chemical Society.  More than half of our undergraduate majors are active in faculty-mentored research projects, and many present their work at national meetings and are co-authors on peer-reviewed publications. Since 2018, Chemistry faculty have secured over $10 million in extramural grants, with over 3/4 of research-active faculty currently funded by the NIH and/or NSF. We published 34 publications in 2021-22 with 26 undergraduate co-authors and have over 60 paid summer research positions for students in Summer 2022. Students are also involved in outreach, inclusion, professional development, and leadership activities through our Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society and Student Ambassador Program.

An earned Ph.D. in biochemistry or closely related field from an accredited institution is required at time of appointment.  Candidates with the ability to initiate or participate in interdisciplinary collaborations are strongly encouraged to apply. Please see hr.wwu.edu for complete required and preferred qualifications as well as application instructions. Review of applications begins September 16, 2022; position open until filled. Inquiries may be addressed to Associate Professor Jeanine Amacher at Jeanine.Amacher@wwu.edu or (360) 650-3497. For disAbility accommodation call (360) 650-3774 or email hr.disability@wwu.edu.
