Job No: 499090
Work Type: Staff
Location: Newark
Categories: Research & Laboratory, Full Time

The group of Prof. Lars Gundlach in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Delaware, (Newark, Delaware) is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Ultrafast Dynamics. The project involves time-resolved THz and mid-IR investigations of novel solid-state materials. The project focusses on the dynamics in novel quantum materials that are developed as part of the MRSEC CHARM center at UD, and on plasmon exciton coupling in semiconductor/hybrid materials as part of an NFS funded project.

The Gundlach group is developing and using femtosecond time-resolved spectroscopic and microscopic techniques to investigate excited state dynamics in molecular systems, in molecule/semiconductor hybrid systems and in solid state materials. Transport and transfer of energy are among the most important processes determining the evolution of a system and they are essential for a wide range of applications. Transfer or transduction of excitations is governed by the coupling between the constituents that are involved and can occur on time-scales as short as a few femtoseconds. The necessary experimental techniques to study these processes in real time are developed, improved, and applied to novel materials systems in our group. Related publications can be found here: (1) https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevMaterials.5.124410, (2) https://doi.org/10.1039/d0nr03551c

Responsibilities:

  • Operating and improving the time-resolved time-domain THz spectroscopy setup. Developing a time-resolved mid-IR spectrometer. Conducting experiments on novel quantum materials and on plasmonic hybrid systems

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or related fields. Priority will be given to candidates with a strong demonstrated background in ultrafast laser spectroscopy.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Experience in the development and application of femtosecond time-resolved TDTS, plasmonic materials and/or dynamics in magnetic materials will be viewed favorably.

The initial appointment is for one year; renewal is subject to performance and availability of funds. The anticipated starting date is Sep 1, 2022.
