The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE) at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for two tenure track positions, open rank, in Chemical Engineering, with earliest start date of September 1, 2023.

The CBE Department is undergoing major growth and rejuvenation, having hired six new senior and junior faculty in the last six years, and moving into newly renovated laboratory space in the heart of Brooklyn. The Department is now eagerly looking for two additional colleagues to join the newly created Sustainable Engineering Initiative with the goal of establishing a leading ecosystem centered on education, research and translation of technologies to Avoid, Mitigate, Remediate and Adapt to Climate Change and Environmental Pollution.

Qualifications

The CBE Department encourages applications from candidates with interest in establishing research programs with sustainable engineering applications, with emphasis on, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Computational chemical engineering and materials science research with focus on approaches that span multiple length and time scales including: density functional theory, molecular dynamics, continuum modeling, process design and optimization, system level technoeconomic and life-cycle analysis. Eagerness to collaborate with experimental groups is most desirable.

  • Experimental chemical engineering and materials science research on heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis and electrocatalysis, polymer circularity and upcycling, polymers for applications in chemical separations, water purification, resource recovery from waste streams or electrochemical conversions. Transdisciplinary and collaborative approaches are encouraged.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering, materials science, environmental engineering or a related discipline. A distinguished record of scholarship, leadership, curricular innovation, entrepreneurship, and an excellent funding record are desired from senior candidates, while junior candidates must demonstrate clear potential to achieve the same. All candidates must demonstrate or show potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring.
