Job Details
The NMR Spectroscopist within our Applied Research Group will provide analytical support to our Lubrizol Additives technology groups and business units by facilitating or leading efforts relating to product differentiation, fundamental knowledge generation, product development, competitive analysis, and new method development. The role will require close collaboration with other groups in R&D to achieve larger strategic initiatives and the successful candidate will be highly motivated with a passion for research and technology development.
Essential Job Functions:
Actively participate in Lubrizol safety programs, ensure compliance with safety procedures, and maintain a safe work environment.
Generate, process, and interpret NMR data in order to prepare reports in support of technical projects, including fundamental knowledge development, plant support, customer service support, new method development, and competitive analysis.
Troubleshoot and maintain NMR instruments, equipment, and procedures to ensure the highest level of accuracy and reliability in our data.
Lead research efforts in NMR analysis as part of collaborations involving the broader analytical team.
Integrate new technology for new applications and product support.
Drive projects from inception through completion.
Communicate and interact with a broad range of internal and external customers through technical reports, presentation, and 1-on-1 conversations.
Meaningfully convey technical information across departments and divisions.
Maintain familiarity with current literature and recent advances in NMR techniques required to keep our labs and methods at the current edge.
Participate in the recruitment, training, and mentoring of technical staff.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
PhD in Chemistry, preferably with 2+ years of relevant industrial, commercial, or post-doctoral NMR experience or a minimum of a M.S. in Chemistry, with 5+ years of relevant industrial NMR experience.
Experience writing technical reports of publication quality.
Demonstrated project management experience including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Must possess strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build relationships with colleagues at multiple levels of an organization.
Must be self-motivated with ability to handle, organize and prioritize multiple tasks and be able to perform under pressure to meet deadlines.
Ability to travel as required (less than 10%).
Considered a Plus:
Experience with Bruker NMR Instrumentation.
Knowledge of organic and inorganic chemistry.
Experience in the NMR analysis of both small molecules and macromolecules.
Lubrizol Additives produces and supplies technologies to customers in the global transportation, industrial and consumer markets. These technologies include lubricant additives for engine oils, driveline and other transportation-related fluids, industrial lubricants, and additives for gasoline and diesel fuel.
